Continuing with the M&S experiment, this is a chunk o’ ciabatta. Ciabatta is made with more oil than regular bread. It is characterised by irregular holes running through the loaf and sometimes the dough is almost transparent looking closely. It’s a light bread and has a distinctly Mediterranean taste.
Couple of interesting facts – M&S introduced ciabatta to the UK in 1985 and two toasted pieces are called panini in Italian (plural of panino).
