I’ve been lucky this week as I’ve been working in Birmingham and it’s given me a great opportunity to explore all the independent coffee providers.
Faculty Coffee was actually on my last day but had the greatest impact. It’s a small almost classroom looking place hidden away in Piccadilly Arcade off New Street, right in the centre of the city. They stock a changing range of little cakes and some sour dough bread made locally in the Jewellery Quarter. Basic, but actually perfectly executed.
I had a little chat with the owner as he described how they only buy a small amount of coffee from Square Mile Coffee Roasters in London so that they get the freshest beans they can. The espresso is almost red in colour and the cappuccino that it made, may have been the best tasting one I’ve ever had. It was a sensation!
Faculty Coffee has become my preferred city centre location for coffee.
