I came across this is excellent and fascinating Raspberry Pi project – an automated, self sustaining coffee machine, that also measures social responsibility.
Created at the University of Edinburgh, a Delonghi coffee machine was dismantled and connected to a Raspberry Pi. It was then programmed to accept Bitcoins from punters via smartphone. Pay the bitcoins and a drink would be made. When the machine needed some maintenance, more water or coffee beans, it would send the next user some bitcoins to complete the task, making it self sustaining.
It also allowed the user to choose the beans and priced the drink appropriately, thus learning how much value is placed on social conscience by the customer. The beans would come with details on their price, quality, environmental impact and social responsibility.
It’s a great experiment in a self sustaining, autonomous machine and the community’s sense of value on social responsibility.
